Music Monday — January ’16

Hello, and welcome to my first Music Monday! Which is essentially a way for me to express my love for music while simultaneously sharing a monthly playlist of (what I believe to be) really great songs. My taste in music is all over the place, so you should expect lots of throwbacks, tons of current jams, and probably a few tunes you haven’t heard before.

I use Spotify, personally, to get my music. Because with the premium subscription, you can listen to your music without using your data – which is great when you don’t have service for whatever reason. So here is the link to the January ’16 playlist on Spotify.

And for those who don’t, here’s the track-list:

  1. Someone somewhere – Jason Reeves
  2. Catching feelings – Justin Bieber
  3. I wanna be yours – Arctic Monkeys
  4. Heart out – The 1975
  5. Do your feet hurt – MxPx
  6. Adore – Cashmere Cat ft. Ariana Grande
  7. Desire – Year & Years
  8. Love me – The 1975
  9. Step – Vampire Weekend
  10. Heart skipped a beat – The xx
  11. Without – Years & Years
  12. Fools – Troye Sivan
  13. Someone else – Miley Cyrus
  14. Droplets – Colbie Caillat ft. Jason Reeves
  15. Inside out – Britney Spears
  16. Better off – Emily Vaughn

If you are hesitant to listen to something new, or skipped through the playlist and just weren’t into it – I urge you to please listen to the playlist, in it’s entirety, at least 2 times. I can guarantee you’ll leave with at least a couple new songs to add to your own playlist!

If you didn’t notice, there was no headphone jack in my phone in the photo above. That’s because I invested in a pair of PowerBeats by Dre (they’re on sale right now!) and I have not looked back. For someone who wears headphones to the gym and can never seem to keep them from falling out, these are perfect. They wrap around the back of your head and stay without any problem at all. And there’s no hassle with the cord, since they just sync to the bluetooth on your phone.

I’m still wrapping my head around this whole thing, but have decided to prize one featured artist per month. Whether well-known or not, this is aimed toward an artist or band who has made an impact on myself and in the genre they belong to, that I’d like to pass onto you all!

This month’s featured band is The 1975. The British 4-man group from Manchester consists of Matty Healy (lead vocals, guitar), Adam Hann (guitar), George Daniel (drums, backing vocals), and Ross MacDonald (drums). They’re an alternative band with a synth pop vibe – totally versatile and heavily influenced by the 80’s, I’d say. They’ve released 3 songs so far, from their upcoming sophomore album, I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It, (try saying that 5 times fast) and I cannot. stop. playing them. A bit more upbeat and pop-y than their first, self-titled album, I’m expecting more of this sound in their album to come.

I saw the band first in April 2014 at Coachella, and second time in December of 2015. (Which is where I got the crewneck you’ll see pictured below.) They’re a fantastic and diverse band, with amazing stage presence, who have really built up quite the fanbase. They seem to always be doing something new, without worry of coloring outside the lines. I’m super excited for their upcoming album and eagerly await it’s addition to their self-titled album in my vinyl collection.

Thanks, as always, for reading. I’ll talk to you all very soon.

Happy Music Monday!

<3, Cody.

And I wanted to mention that, of course, nothing in this post was sponsored! Just my friendly recommendations to you all.
